Uncanny

By Bradley McIlwain

still stale air stirs bewildered memories of
dust down ancient hallways where sounds

of heavy breathing ascend undesirably up
the stair in unrequited heaves wrapped in

old familiar dragging and hooves of heavy
clunking firmly moving forward toward

the bedroom door that slowly unlocks
your voiceless face fresh from a coffer

in the woods you bend to kill me with a
kiss and quell the untamed language of your restless eye
